Teak Garden Furniture for Smaller Gardens

March 11th, 2010

Choosing garden furniture sets for smaller spaces can be tricky. A large garden table can take up a lot of precious space you’d rather devote to growing plants and enjoying yourself. Our range of teak garden furniture is filled with ideas to help you make the best of limited spaces without creating clutter or cramping your style.

First, for the very small garden, we have a range of foldable teak garden furniture sets, including several styles of garden chairs and tables, all in beautiful solid teak. These can be folded up for easy storage out of the way when not in use. They’re great for families, too – no matter the size of your space. When your kids want to toss a ball around in the back garden, simply fold the furniture and stow it to one side for an hour or two while they play. We even have foldable teak garden loungers.

If fold-away isn’t your style, have a look at our bar stool garden chairs and matching teak tables. High, elegant and compact, these are ideal garden furniture sets for smaller spaces.

You might also like to consider garden chairs and tables with rounded edges. Not only do curves edges soften the impact of a piece of furniture in a confined area, they also reduce the risk of banging your legs (or your kids while the run around!) against corners and sharp edges. We have several styles of garden benches in flowing, rounded shapes that are just perfect for the smaller garden.

Adaptable Garden Furniture Sets from Chic Teak

March 10th, 2010

Your garden changes every day, from new growth in spring to the quiet winter months. We think there is no reason your teak garden furniture should be fixed and static when your environment isn’t, so we’ve developed a range of foldable garden furniture sets. The garden chairs and tables are easy to move around so you can make the best of seasonal displays and change the view from your garden table whenever you like. That way your garden table can be set up by the spectacular autumn foliage of your maple trees, on your lawn in the middle of your bright spring flower beds, or tucked under the cool shade of your biggest trees in the hot summer.

Foldable teak garden furniture is also great for smaller gardens and patio areas. Take it out of the garage or basement on a sunny afternoon, then store it away safely and enjoy uninterrupted views of your garden or make full use of limited space when the kids want to play outside.

A few extra folding garden chairs are great for adding to your garden furniture set for entertaining. They can be folded up compactly for storage when not in use. Some of our foldable teak garden tables are extendable, too. Using these will let you turn your small garden furniture set into one big enough to seat all your friends without compromising the look of your beautiful teak garden furniture.

Going beyond the basics of Wooden Garden Furniture

March 9th, 2010

Garden furniture sets can be so much more than dull, blocky wooden garden tables and utilitarian garden chairs. While the table and chairs are still the key ingredients in great garden furniture sets, you can choose the right style to suit your needs and meet the demands of fashion!

The wooden garden table is the centrepiece for outdoor entertaining and family dining, so picking the right size is important. If in doubt, go for one that can be extended with an extra panel for special occasions and big gatherings. You should also match it to the size of your garden; too big and you will lose important open space and make your garden look cluttered. The garden chairs should match the table, and as they’re often more ornate, bring out a style- formal, casual, simple or richly shaped.

Of course, not everyone wants to entertain or eat in the garden. Happily, the wooden garden furniture family is as varied as gardens themselves. Garden park benches add a friendly, welcoming feel to a green space and look great in a leafy secluded nook or even just a part of the garden where nothing much like lies to grow.

For something a little more fun, we have wooden swing seats. The kids will love them and the adults will have a great place to relax and watch them play outdoors. If your garden is more open, how about some reclining garden chairs or loungers? Not just for beside the pool, you can also use one to create a perfect haven in the yard. Take a book and enjoy some time in the sun!

Why Choose Teak Garden Furniture

March 4th, 2010

A lot of today’s garden furniture sets are made from plastic, cane or wicker, or from cheap softwoods like pine. Wood garden furniture is better; far more attractive and looks much neater in a leafy garden setting, fitting in without detracting from the natural beauty around it. It’s also less flimsy and if looked after correctly, prolonged exposure to sunlight won’t cause the cracks, discoloration and decay plastic garden furniture sets are prone to.

So, what about wicker garden furniture? Visually, it’s a definite step up from plastic, and good quality wicker and cane woven outdoor furniture can be very comfortable to sit on and nice and light to move around, but it doesn’t stand up to the elements so well. Repeated wetting in the rain can cause rot to set in and your garden furniture set won’t last long outside. We think wicker patio furniture is ideal – and woven cane chairs are great for relaxing inside the house too – but it doesn’t work so well in a permanent outdoor setting.

How about pine? The reason pine is used so much in construction and cabinet making is that it’s fast growing and readily available from plantations all across North America, Europe, and much of the world. However, there is a downside. It isn’t as strong as hardwoods like teak, mahogany or elm, and the long, obvious grain can lead to splintering after prolonged exposure to heat and damp, or just general use over a long period.

Teak is strong and will stand up to long periods of use in all weathers. It also has a lovely honey colouring even when unfinished, and a close grain – no splinters. There is even a pleasing light scent, making it ideal for the task at hand.

Teak Outdoor Furniture for Cafe Dining

March 2nd, 2010

Once confined to the pavement cafes and bars of Paris and continental Europe, outdoor restaurant dining is growing in popularity every summer, and so have garden furniture sets designed with cafes and bars in mind. What better way to add extra space to your eatery in the summer busy season than with an outdoor coffee table?

Our teak garden furniture sets are ideal. They are durable and splinter-free without sacrificing fashionability. They come in a range of different styles from simple and elegant to beautifully ornate to modern and funky.  We have folding teak garden tables that can be stowed away inside easily every night and extendable, modular garden furniture sets that can be added to when you need to cater for a big group.

If you have space out back, why not create a garden dining space? The open air is great for smokers and can help you along the way to a smoke free, family friendly atmosphere inside. You don’t even have to do any elaborate gardening – a few wooden planters filled with green foliage and bright flowers will do wonders for even the dullest concrete environment.

You can choose the garden furniture sets that are ideal for you. Our bar-style teak garden tables and teak bar stools are great for casual drinks and dinner and will save you space, while some generously sized teak outdoor garden tables would give you a great place for big groups, especially with some comfortable teak park benches to match.
