Caring for Teak Garden Furniture

There are few things more enjoyable than spending some time relaxing outdoors in your teak garden furniture. In recent years, teak garden furniture has become the most popular option to consumers because of the quality, strength and durability that the wood offers. However, even though teak furniture is relatively easy to care for, there are still a few things that need to be considered in order to make sure that it remains well looked after.

Any teak garden accessories that are consistently exposed to UV rays from the sun will need to be treated with teak oil. Excessive or long-term exposure to sunlight will have a drying effect on the wood, which will cause it to turn a dull shade over time. Periodically applying plenty of teak oil onto the furniture should be enough to prevent it losing its healthy glow. However, if the wood continues to look weathered, even after your initial treatment, you will need to apply the teak oil more frequently.

Another way of protecting wooden garden accessories is to cover them with purpose made tarpaulins during adverse conditions. This is most important during the winter months, when the wood dries up. Any water that leaks into the wood will tend to freeze up, causing it to split and break in places. An even better option is to cover the furniture in a tarpaulin, and then store it in a waterproof garage over the course of the winter.
