Chic Teak Garden Furniture with History in Mind
Here at Chic Teak we are aware of the history of teak furniture and of garden furniture sets. It may sound mundane, but every piece of teak garden furniture we produce is part of a long history of teak trading that goes back to the earliest encounters between European spice trade ships and the peoples of south east Asia. The dense, tough, and beautiful teak and mahogany woods were immediately recognised as a commodities of great value and utility.
The high value and outstanding quality of teak meant that these early imported timbers were worked by the finest craftsmen into pieces of incredible value and richness, many of which still exist today in museums and private collections.
Garden furniture sets also have a long and elegant history. Dining and taking tea outside at a garden table was a popular English Victorian pastime, for example. Ornamental and formal garden design flourished in that era with influences from Italy and France, and of course garden furniture sets evolved alongside.
We try to bring an consciousness of this history to our teak garden furniture. In our Lutyens teak garden furniture collection, the flowing curves of the garden benches and chairs are strongly reminiscent of classic teak and mahogany furniture designs. There is also an note from early wrought iron garden furniture sets, but the solid teak construction brings a beautiful and flowing texture and colour to the design.
We value every piece of timber that goes into our garden furniture sets, knowing how far it has come from the plantations of Indonesia to our workshops. Even our simple garden benches and garden chairs are designed and built to the highest standards to make the best of this wonderful material.
