What is Sustainable Teak?
At Chic Teak we are very conscious of the environmental impact of hardwood harvesting, and that is why we are committed to using only teak from sustainable sources. Therefore, we hope that whenever you’re relaxing with your teak garden furniture, you can enjoy that extra peace of mind in knowing that your garden furniture is environmentally friendly. So, what exactly is sustainable teak, and why is it better for the environment?
Due to the popularity of common teak (or Tectona Grandis to use its formal name) for a variety of diverse applications, from ship building to Victorian teak garden furniture, teak was threatened by over-harvesting. Luckily, however, in recent years the world has woken up to environmental concerns and sustainable teak harvesting has become the industry standard.
“Sustainable” simply means that the teak forests are carefully managed, ensuring that whenever a tree is felled a new tree is planted, which then can mature into a fully grown tree ensuring a cyclical process. Sustainability therefore doesn’t just have implications for a tree species, but it also ensures retention of CO2, which is the major cause of global warming.
At Chic Teak, we are committed to only offering you ethical teak, grown in Indonesian government-run plantations. That way you can be assured that not only is your teak garden furniture good for the environment, that is also comes from legally and properly run plantations. So, next time your reclining in your Chic Teak garden chairs you can be assured that you’re helping the environment.
